Kirby earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1980, and a juris doctor degree from Southern Methodist University in 1983. After specializing in business and commercial litigation for five years with a small firm, Barbara joined Xerox Corporation in 1987. She was one of the first attorneys in a unique program designed to move the majority of collection-related legal matters to a corporate legal staff, as opposed to the traditional use of outside counsel. As region attorney for the Collection Services Law Department at Xerox, Barbara currently has responsibility for negotiation and settlement of commercial law and collection related matters, as well as the management of complex bankruptcy cases, for a 22-state region. Barbara has won numerous awards while at Xerox, including the national Xerox All Star award for the Financing Businesses organization. Since 1990, Barbara has also been an instructor of bankruptcy and creditors' rights at Southeastern Paralegal Institute, an ABA-approved paralegal school in Dallas.
