Professeur successivement aux universites de Nancy (1961-1969), de Nanterre (1969-1971) et de Paris-I Pantheon-Sorbonne (1971-2001) ; Professeur emerite depuis octobre 2001. President du Comite francais de droit international prive (1987-1990). Membre du Groupe europeen de droit international prive (Gedip) depuis sa fondation (1991). Membre de l'Institut de droit international (depuis 1995). Conseiller d'Etat en service extraordinaire (1997-2001). Secretaire general de la Commission internationale de l'etat civil (2000-2009). Redacteur en chef, puis directeur de la Revue critique de droit international prive (1976-2012). Membre de la delegation francaise au groupe de travail ayant prepare de 1970 a 1980 la Convention de Rome du 19 juin 1980 sur la loi applicable aux obligations contractuelles, et corapporteur de cette convention. Membre des groupes d'experts de la Commission europeenne sur le droit des successions et sur celui des regimes matrimoniaux. Hilary Charlesworth, born on 28 February 1955 at Leuven. Distinguished Professor of International Law and Human Rights and Director of the Centre for International Governance and Justice in the Regulatory Institutions Network at the Australian National University in Canberra. Educated at the University of Melbourne and Harvard Law School and has held visiting appointments at United States and European universities. Held an Australian Research Council Federation Fellowship (2005-2010) and currently holds an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship. Has served as President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law, Counsellor of the American Society of International Law and Executive Board member of the Asian Society of International Law. On the editorial boards of a number of international law journals and has been co-editor of the Australian Year Book of International Law and a member of the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law. Joint winner, with Christine Chinkin, of the American Society of International Law's 2006 Goler T. Butcher Medal in recognition of outstanding contributions to the development or effective realization of international human rights law . Has worked with various non-governmental human rights organizations on ways to implement international human rights standards and was chair of the Australian Capital Territory government's inquiry into a bill of rights, which led to the adoption of the Australian Capital Territory Human Rights Act, 2004. In 2011, elected as Associate Member of the Institut de droit international. Appointed judge ad hoc at the International Court of Justice (in 2011) for the Whaling in the Antarctic(Australia v.
