I'm allergic to alcohol. When I drink, I break out into handcuffs. The simple fact is to me it's poison. Now, more than eight years sober, I still refuse to kid myself. I'm an alcoholic. I always will be, even if I never take another drink for the rest of my life. Alcohol dependence is a chronic medical disease. I know that when I drink, I cannot stop like other people.
