Reviews

A very deep bow to the authors of this report, which I think is going to be a seminal vehicle for taking our responses to the climate crisis to the next level... I have a love affair with the Mindfulness Initiative and deeply honour the amount of love and work going into these projects, which will excite and inspire individuals, leaders and groups to put their shoulder to the wheel at this all-hands-on-deck moment on spaceship earth - Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn

Author Information

Jamie Bristow is Co-Director of The Mindfulness Initiative, a policy institute that grew out of a programme of mindfulness teaching for politicians in the UK Parliament. After supporting politicians to form the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Mindfulness and conduct a policy inquiry throughout 2014, Jamie took over as Director in 2015 to launch the seminal Mindful Nation UK report. He has since grown the Mindfulness Initiative into an influential think tank, authoring and producing a series of publications and working with decision-makers around the world to integrate inner capacities and contemplative practice into the public policy landscape. Jamie was formerly Business Development Director for Headspace and has a background in psychology, climate change campaign communications and advertising. A teacher of insight meditation, his mentors have included Rob Burbea, Stephen Batchelor and Christina Feldman. Rosie Bell is a writer and communications advisor, and frequent collaborator with the Mindfulness Initiative. With an academic background in philosophy & literature and MA in International Public and Political Communication, her work is currently focused upon public narratives surrounding the climate movement, and the role of inner capacities in societal change. Alongside training as a mindfulness teacher, Rosie brings a background in performance to her decade of creative work with NGOs, social change initiatives and wellbeing innovators. Christine Wamsler is Professor of Sustainability Science at Lund University Centre For Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS) and director of the Contemplative Sustainable Futures Program. She is an internationally-renowned expert in sustainable development and associated (material and cognitive) transformation processes with 25 years of experience, both in theory and practice. Her work has shaped international debates and increased knowledge on personal, collective, institutional and policy transformations in a context of climate change. She has written more than 200 papers, chapters and reports on these issues. Her publications are regularly cited and used for practice, theory and policy development, including by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
