A section is devoted to publishers' series, and an appendix lists dealers who carry books in Spanish. Indexes by author, title, and subject round out the work.

As in her previous collections, titles are categorized into reference, nonfiction (which is roughly sorted by Dewey order), series book, and fiction (both easy and general). Isabel Schon is Director and Founding Faculty of the Barahona Center for the Study of Books in Spanish for Children and Adolescents at California State University, San Marcos. She has authored more than 20 books about literature for Latino and Spanish-speaking children and adolescents. Her previous Scarecrow publications include the Best of the Latino Heritage series (1996, 2003), Recommended Books in Spanish for Children and Young Adults, 1991-1995 (1996) and Recommended Books in Spanish for Children and Young Adults, 1996-1999 (2001).
