She has over a decade of experience in counseling children, teens, and families, having served as clinical director of two mental health agencies and as an elementary school counselor before transitioning to homeschooling and writing. Along with her husband James, Katie also has more than twelve years of ministry and church planting experience. In addition to Recipes for a Sweet Child, she also authored Dishing Up Devotions: 36 Faith-Building Activities for Homeschooling Families.
