Recent Advances in Thin-Walled Structures

Overview

Recent Advances in Thin-walled Structures presents the current state-of-the-art in this important research field. The book is dedicated to the contributions of Professor Dinar Camotim, who is one of the most prominent, global researchers in the field of thin-walled metal structures, and who recently retired. Within the book, nine leading international experts present their most recent and important research findings. The book begins with an introductory chapter that describes the contributions that Professor Dinar Camotin has made to the field during his long and established career. Subsequent chapters focus on different cutting-edge topics that have been written by world-renowned experts. The book will be a valuable reference resource for all those who are involved in the design and optimization of thin-walled structures. It presents the latest achievements in the field, which will help readers address their own challenges and prepare them for future developments and achievements.

Author Information

Rodrigo Gonçalves is a Full Professor at the Civil Engineering Department and is the Coordinator of the NOVA hub of the CERIS research center. His scientific activity concerns Steel & Steel-Concrete Composite Structures, focusing on Structural Stability and Thin-Walled Structures. He is in the “top cited Stanford list” (2019-). He serves in two CEN Working Groups for Eurocode 3 and in the national sub-commissions for Eurocodes 3 and 4, as well as in the Editorial Board of several scientific journals, namely “Thin-Walled Structures”. He is the Structural Stability Research Council Task Group 2 vice-chair (Stability of Steel Members). Nuno Silvestre, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal, specializes in two key areas: numerical methods for thin-walled structures and mechanics of nanomaterials. His work on Generalized Beam Theory (GBT) is globally recognized, while his research on carbon nanotubes (CNT) and graphene reinforced composites has made significant contributions. With over 270 papers in indexed journals and numerous conference presentations, he holds impressive citations. Nuno Silvestre serves as Editor-in-Chief for Thin-Walled Structures Journal (Elsevier) and has held various editorial roles. He has received numerous awards for his scientific achievements, including the Vinnakota 2004 Award and the UTL 2011 Award. Since 2021, he has been President of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (Portugal) and Vice-Coordinator of the Associated Laboratory of Energy, Transportation, and Aerospace (Portugal).
