Overview

Seventeen-year-old Kyle experiences terrifying nightmares of colossal humanoid figures that seem to be affecting the post-apocalyptic world of Arbor, his city built within a giant redwood tree. His anxieties are dismissed by his parents, but his fears are validated when monstrous vines erupt from the ground, destroying Arbor. Kyle escapes into the surrounding forest, eventually finding a shimmering doorway that transports him to Saltu, a technologically advanced world inhabited by the Anura Sapien. On Saltu, Kyle assumes the identity of a deceased Anurian soldier named Dustin, learning about Aether, a powerful augmented reality game, and a galactic war orchestrated by a rogue AI. He uncovers a conspiracy linked to his past and his own hidden powers, joining a rebellion against the AI. Their fight leads them to Aquaria, a water world beset by a deadly eclipse, where Kyle and his allies battle mutated creatures. He ultimately confronts the cosmic entity behind the corruption, revealing a larger galactic conflict, and discovers his connection to Phoenix Tech and their efforts to restore the galaxy. His journey is a constant fight for survival, self-discovery, and redemption across realities and across the stars.
