Rebellion and Deceit

Overview

Rebellion led by Hasan the Fool sweeps across Asia Minor. Upset at this threat to the Ottoman Empire, sipahi horsemen become belligerent. Their leaders plot intrigue against Sultan Mehmet III and Gazanfer Agha, the Chief White Eunuch. Encamped on the Atmeidan, or the ancient Hippodrome of Constantinople, these sipahis will demand an audience with the Sultan. Aisha, Sister of the Sultan, must bring a Dutch odalisque out of the Imperial Harem in the New Palace and away from the watchful eye of her mother, Valide Sultana Safiye and the Chief Black Eunuch, Osman Kizlar Agha. At her sumptuous palace, Aisha and her friends want to learn more about her English slave, Capitano John Smith. In the Netherlands and in France, Captain Joseph Duxbury teaches his young recruit John Smith how to fight. In March of 1596, Spanish deceit causes the fall of Amiens, a northern gateway to Paris. King Henry IV, later known as Henri le Grand, calls upon Queen Elizabeth to help him recover this fortified city in an exemplar of military strategy-the Velvet Siege. Based on true events transpiring during the late renaissance in Europe and Ottoman Turkey, REBELLION AND DECEIT continues the amazing story first introduced in THE ENGLISH SLAVE, the first book in the EMPIRES AND KINGDOMS historical fiction series.
