OverviewFifty-seven-year-old William Hamilton is reliving his past mistakes. The year is 1942. His thoughts and memories are haunting him. His Demons are tormenting him. In 1927, William was head of a major oil production company. For no apparent reason, William, one day halted all oil production. No explanation was given. This halt in production caused the oil industry to crash. William blamed everyone but himself. The continued oil crisis contributed to the 1929 stock market crash. No one ever knew what started it all, and William never took responsibility. Now, as he lays in an asylum for the insane, the details of the halt in oil production are coming to light and all the blame is shifting to William. People want him to be held accountable for the dire situation the country, and indeed, the world found itself in. The faces of starving children, the wails of crying mothers, the defeated looks on the faces of husbands and fathers who can't support their families, the angry cries from those who lost their jobs and their homes, plague him every night. It is a never-ending cycle. Cries of ""Murderer"" and ""It's your fault"" and ""You did this"" haunt his dreams. Over and over, relentlessly. He wakes in the morning and tries to return home from the asylum, but when he gets there and opens the door, the torment starts over.
