This thoughtful collection of works from the Early Church to the Late Middle ages provides an excellent introduction to the history of Christianity. This diverse anthology includes selections from normative and non-normative authors, from well-known and lesser known writers, from men and women, from theologians and mystics. The insightful chapter introductions and brief summaries of each reading make this a reliable guide for the student and teacher alike. -Carl Beckwith, Beeson Divinity School, Samford University
