This story is part of Reading Champion, a series carefully linked to book bands to encourage independent reading skills, developed with Dr Sue Bodman and Glen Franklin of UCL Institute of Education (IOE) In this retelling of a traditional tale, a turnip grows to an enormous size. Everyone must help to try to pull it up! Reading Champion offers independent reading books for children to practise and reinforce their developing reading skills. Fantastic stories are accompanied by engaging artwork and a reading activity. Each book has been carefully graded so that it can be matched to a child's reading ability, encouraging reading for pleasure. This retelling of the original traditional tale is suitable for children aged 5-7, or those reading at book band Green 5.

Katie Woolley (Author) Katie Woolley is a creative and versatile editor and writer who has worked on children's books for all age levels, from board books, novelty books and picture books to non fiction, licensed publishing and educational books and apps. Katie has more than 10 years' publishing experience; she has written, commissioned, edited and project managed a variety of titles for some of the biggest children's publishers, such as Ladybird Books and Hachette Children's Books. Denis Cristo (Illustrator) Denis Cristo is an illustrator and web designer based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Most of his illustrations are digital vector art. He studied advertising, and worked for many years with an animation studio. Over the last few years he's been working as a freelance illustrator with the advertising and children's books markets.
