• Commended for Moonbeam Children's Book Award (Reading Skills/Literacy) 2015

Overview

A rhyming picture book illustrated with children's cutouts celebrates the idea that any place is a good place to read a book to a child. Where's the best place to read a book? The children in this bright and bold picture book proclaim that any place is a good place to share a story. And colorful collages featuring delightful cut outs made by children in a collaborative art project illustrate that there's just no end to the places that are just right for reading.

Read To Me! is an amazing, vibrant, verse and collage enticement to the joy of reading books to children. Winner of the Moonbeam Children's Book Award, Read To Me! is characterized by lilting, lifting rhyming scenarios that beg an adult to Read to me! Read to me! again and again in widely contrasting situations, at work, at play, indoors, outdoors, at bedtime, in daytime, and anytime. Charming bright colorful collages illustrate the many places where reading can be shared and enjoyed. The collages are made of cut out scraps of fabric made by kindergartners and 6th graders who paired in a collaborative art project. They are completely creative, ebullient, and delightful. Read To Me! is created from a heartfelt desire to empower children to enjoy richer, fuller, safer lives by cultivating early literacy skills. At the end of Read To Me! are some important tips and helpful things that an adult can do to help their child gets ready to read. But the most important message of Read To Me! is that every child loves to be read to because it is fun, and a tangible way of communicating parental love and support.
--Midwest Book Review (02/12/2017)
