Azure Russell Rappa was diagnosed with an astra cytoma grade one brain tumor at age twenty-five, any operation would be fatal. He was told by neurologists that he would only live for twenty-four months; one said five months . He suffered 6400 rads of radiation treatments, which should have killed him within one year. In the Interim, he survived six strokes and lost his speech and the mobility in his right side. After the first three strokes, he recovered fully. His fourth stroke hit him the hardest; he still has not fully recovered. Among his many accomplishments, Rappa achieved high point man junior life guard tournament; back to back and 1st team all-league water polo as deep end goalie Santa Barbara tri-county league. He was honorably discharged from the US Army Infantry in 1975. He has an Associate's degree in fine arts from Santa Barbara CC, a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Long Beach State University California, and a Master's degree in Fine Arts from UC Santa Barbara. Rappa holds a Patent grant award for kenetic sound sculpture. He's had art exhibits at New Port Harbor Museum of Art, the Downy Museum of Art: ""Fire and Ice exhibit"", and UC Santa Barbara Museum of Art. He's also had several exhibits at Santa Barbara CC Small Images Museum, including a one-man show at Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forums Outer Space Gallery, curated by John MacCraken. The M. Shore and Son Gallery, and thirty other art galleries. The author resides in the town of Sonoma and has two children.
