OverviewRaul and the Iguana is a bilingual, English-Spanish illustrated children's book. The story, partly based on an actual event, takes place in tropical Panama City, Republic of Panama. In the story, a wayward iguana enters the apartment where the boy Raul lives with his family. The iguana causes a great commotion and after capturing it, Raul decides to keep it as a pet in a cage. Raul realizes that the iguana is not happy and decides to do the right thing. He and his family drive into the tropical forest and release the iguana into the wild. Cisneros was born in Panama and was raised there and in the United States. Raul flyes airplanes and helps tobuild and repair them. He is a tour guide at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC where he enjoystelling stories about aviation and space. Raul's hobbies include reading, exercising and swimming. Raul and the Iguana is his first book. Johnny Lamirande studied illustration at Towson University in Maryland. He has a number of children's books to his credit including My Nephew is an Alien!, Once Upon a Bedtime, and The Lost Island. Johnny's work is largely inspired by artists and animators such as Jacek Yerka, Hayao Miyazaki, and Walt Disney. When he's not working, Johnny enjoys playing the guitar and video games. Enrique de la Espriella is an award-winning creative leader, designer, and author whose career has been shaped by imagination, resilience, and storytelling.
