In addition to holding a doctorate in theology, Michael is currently in the dissertation phase for his Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Instructional Design for Online Learning. His dissertation topic is proving or disproving the statement that educators should use the same principles and techniques used by successful commercial game designers when designing educational, or Serious, games. He has developed professional relationships with several games and simulation development companies including Caspian Learning in the United Kingdom, the creators of Thinking Worlds . Through his professional relationships, he has developed first-hand knowledge of just how important a well-developed game or simulation is to the successful transfer of knowledge between instructor and learner. Michael holds graduate degrees in theology, education media design and technology, and computer science. He holds several computer and management certifications and has served as senior manager for the United States military, non-profit organizations, corporations, and academic institutions, leading many instructional design projects, some of which included Serious Game elements.
