OverviewIn the summer of 1984, the author was hired to manage state land leased for cattle grazing in central Arizona. The job involved quite a bit of field work, that to say the least was varied. It involved working on ranch management and monitoring plans, coordinating projects with other state and federal agencies, conducting natural resource inventories, archaeological surveys, taking horseback rides with ranchers and other agency personnel, etc. Around the work the author was able to indulge his interests such as locating and documenting historical ruins located in his area of responsibility. These included a number of Indian Wars era army camps and forts. He was lucky enough to share some of his varied field days with his young daughter through several Take Your Daughter to Work days that are documented in one of the chapters. Also, over the years he made time for just getting out and exploring the backcountry. Come along as we explore some back roads in four-low.
