Overview

The Ramayana is one of the two major epics of India. In addition to describing the mutual duties of different relationships in this poem, the idea of human society has been explained by depicting the character of an ideal servant, the ideal brother, the ideal wife, and the ideal king. The Ramayana is not just a story, it is presented in this epic through narrative metaphors with the teachings, philosophical and devotional elements of Hindu sages. The basic elements of Indian cultural consciousness are reflected in the characters of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Bharata, Hanuman, and Ravana. However, from the historical point of view, Ramayana is considered to be the oldest book. The main source of mythology about Rama is the epic Ramayana written by Rishi Balmiki. Besides, Rama, the seventh incarnation of Vishnu, is mentioned in Vishnu Purana. The story of Rama is narrated in the tenth and eleventh chapters of the ninth volume of the Bhagavata Purana.
