Unfamiliar terms are defined, with pronunciations, in the text (the glossary includes few of these and is not comprehensive). The many photographs are both colorful and multicultural, and the presentation is appealing. Unfortunately, the description of calendars is confusing, and Gnojewski fails to indicate who (besides children) is exempt from fasting. For readers on the younger end, Suhaib Hamid Ghazi's beautifully illustrated Ramadan (Holiday House, 1996) and Susan Douglass's easy-reader Ramadan (Carolrhoda, 2003) are both useful. Diane Hoyt-Goldsmith's Celebrating Ramadan (Holiday House, 2001), focusing on a Muslim family in New Jersey, is an excellent, detailed overview., School Library Journal January 2005 Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
