OverviewLong before Ralph Fleck starts painting, he has memorized or even internalized his motif. He doesn't just paint casually, though it could appear that way given his brushwork that is partially impetuous and counter to the logic of the image. Fleck knows what he's doing. The former student of Peter Dreher is a devotee of the series format; his Fields or Alps come close to the time-of-day paintings by Claude Monet, whom Fleck clearly references, albeit in an ironic and critical way, in another series entitled Giverny.
