Raising History Interviews From The Grave Power and Shadows

Overview

Five titans of American power return to face the questions history still asks. Richard Nixon revisits Watergate, image, and legacy. Lyndon B. Johnson grapples with civil rights gains and the cost of the Vietnam War. J. Edgar Hoover defends the FBI's surveillance state. Henry Kissinger lays out the cold logic of realpolitik. Joseph McCarthy confronts the fires of McCarthyism and fear. In these imagined conversations-meticulously researched and grounded in the public record-you'll encounter power at its most human: ambition, calculation, doubt, and consequence. If you're drawn to Cold War history, political scandals, and the private mindsets behind public decisions, this volume invites you into the room where reputations are made-and unmade. Featuring: Richard Nixon - Lyndon B. Johnson - J. Edgar Hoover - Henry Kissinger - Joseph McCarthy Perfect for readers of: presidential biography, American politics, and Cold War studies.
