Why is it that our reality is so defined by language? The constant narrative in our heads, its endless chatter that dominates our experience, is there any way to let that go? Words, which make up our thoughts and define our feelings, inherently separate us from what is really going on. Those engaged in investigating these concerns, in trying to understand and see through the self, must confront the issue of language. Because words are the primary tools we have to communicate, to express thoughts, feelings and experiences, we must engage with them. Can words be used to help us put down our constant narratives, help us to see through the illusion of separateness?Raindrops are a form of minimalist poetry that, while they can be appreciated in and of themselves, are primarily devices for occupying the conceptual mind. When we practice we are open to what is but our constant narrative, our endless self referencing, the continual working of our conceptual mind undermines this. Tendo has been an active investigator into the essential questions throughout his life. An ordained Rinzai Zen monk he has dedicated his life to practice and the sharing of practice with others. Since 2018 he has been the head monk at Tahoma Zen Monastery. As one dedicated toward helping others with practice he has lead retreats, taught technique, given talks and produced numerous writings in essays, newsletters and on the web at Drafty Mountain Hut.
