Overview

"""Red people rest in the roses."" with simple words like these and stunning illustrations, Charles Long (words) and Christina Allen (illustrations), share a message of unity. In the pages of this book, the colors of the rainbow are experienced by seven children. Each enjoys a color differently--some rest, some bounce, and some swim. In the end, there are not seven separate colors. In the end, there is one rainbow. While each child experiences the world of color uniquely, each is still part of the whole--the rainbow. We are not just a world of different people. We are also a world of people who are different. This message of unity helps children learn the colors of the rainbow and the unity-in-diversity that the rainbow symbolizes."

Author Information

"Christina L. Allen lives in southern Maryland on a small farm with her husband, cat, flock of sheep, rare Jersey Buff heritage turkeys, and heritage chickens. She also is an avid handweaver and spinner. Both Christina and her husband are avid gardeners, so plants, trees, flowers, and organic farming are also an important part of her life and work. They also practice sustainable farming. She has been a professional artist for almost 40 years. The rural life and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay find their way into many of her paintings. After her first book ""A Micro-Chip On My Shoulder"" won a national Gold Indie Excellence Children's Book Award, Christina has continued to paint for children's books. Christina's illustrated internationally published children's books have received six national book awards: The Indie Award for Excellence in Children's Books, The Moonbeam Award(s), the Living Now Book Award; The Evergreen Medal, and Mom's Choice Book Awards. Fine children's books are published with her company, Corn Crib Publishing. Charles was born in Philadelphia, PA but calls Brooklyn, NY his hometown. He grew up in Manhattan and Brooklyn. After high school, he earned his BA from Brooklyn College, his MS from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He was very interested in studying monkeys in those days. After he completed his master's degree, his life took a new turn. He went to seminary and became a pastor. Almost 26 years later, in 2018, he retired from pastoring to become a full-time writer and consultant. He has always been an avid musician, playing a variety of instruments and singing at coffee houses and other venues. He enjoys a wide variety of music: from Classic Rock to Jazz to Folk to Bubble Gum to Classical to Alternative. He is lobbying for either a banjo or a ukulele next. In addition to music and writing, he loves nature, travel, and other diversions."
