Radio Sovereign

Overview

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Radio Sovereign was the first radio station in the UK to utilise a 'Solid Gold' record format and broadcast non-stop 'Golden Oldies' from their studios in Sherland Road Twickenham. The station was the brainchild of John Kenning and Crispian St. John. Radio Sovereign commenced broadcasts in May 1983 and closed down on 2nd of January 1984. A wavelength of 200 metres was always announced, although in practice the original frequency of 1503 kHz was later replaced by the better received 1494 kHz. Jingles used on the station included a specially commissioned package recorded by the singers at Pams of Dallas who provided the original jingles used by the Offshore Pirate Radio Station, Radio London in the Sixties.
