Reviews

'This book of stories from the rich tradition of radical dissent in Perth and Fremantle is lively and engaging. Use it to explore the sites of protest and appreciate the remarkable range of local and international causes that were taken up from colonial times to the present. It will be a real eye-opener too for readers in states outside Western Australia.' Stuart McIntyre Emeritus Laureate Professor, University of Melbourne President Federal Executive Australian Society for the Study of Labour History

Author Information

Charlie Fox taught Australian History at the University of Melbourne and The University of Western Australia before retiring at the end of 2011. He has published widely on histories of work, unemployment, intellectual disability, and radical political and cultural movements. At present he does occasional walking tours of radical Perth and Fremantle. Alexis Vassiley is a postgraduate researcher at Curtin University. His dissertation examines the rise and fall of trade unionism in Western Australia's Pilbara mining region. He has published in Labour History on trade union solidarity with Aboriginal rights at Noonkanbah, as well as on establishing militant trade unionism in the Pilbara. Bobbie Oliver is an Honorary Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia. Prior to retiring in 2018, she was Associate Professor of History at Curtin University. Her most recent book is A Natural Battleground: The fight to establish a rail heritage centre at Western Australia's Midland Railway Workshops.
