Overview

Natural radiation is omnipresent everywhere on the earth, and humans cannot avoid it. Natural radiation is a critical aspect in understanding the health issue and predicting the existence of radionuclides. Because the ocean is the source of all materials, and due to the fact that water from everywhere is submerged in the ocean through river networks, the ocean will contain varying radiation doses in every site. This book has information about radiation status near the ocean in all areas on Earth. There are five oceans, namely: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Antarctic Oceans. This book is a valuable resource of its kind for indicating the radiation status in all types of oceans. The outcomes of this book are extremely valuable to people in a variety of fields, including health sciences, material sciences, radiological fields, environmental science, oceanology, water world, and so on.

Author Information

Dr. Manoj Kumar Jindal is an active researcher who has completed a Ph.D. in radiation (Applied Chemistry) and is currently focusing on environmental chemistry/science research (radiation and water fields, including water quality, quantity, sustainability, and water chemistry). He has over ten years of experience in research and teaching. Presently, he works as a researcher in the Centre for Sustainable Drinking Water, IITJ-Jal Jeevan Mission at the Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur (IITJ), Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. Previously, he worked at the Divecha Centre for Climate Change, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India, for 2 years and at IIT Bhilai for 3.5 years. He has over 30 research publications in indexed journals, including several articles included in the WHO COVID-19 data library. He is also the author of two books and numerous book chapters. He is a reviewer for many journals, including those from Elsevier, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, and Oxford University Press. He has also reviewed book proposals for Elsevier. He is an Editorial Board Member of Discover Sustainability, published by Springer Nature (IF-2.4). Ms. Amala David is a passionate chemical oceanographer with a strong background in marine chemistry. She has worked on water-quality related problems. A dynamic and driven researcher with a proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. Highly adaptable to changing situations while maintaining the highest quality of work for any project at hand. Her objective is to work as a leading researcher in marine science and get involved in continuous monitoring of ocean ecosystems to find out the threats and minimize adverse effects on them. Prof. Mayeen Uddin Khandaker, Ph.D. (Korea), MSc (Ctg. Univ, 1st class 1st), BSc (Ctg. Univ, 1st class 1st) is a Professor of Applied Physics and Radiation Technologies at Sunway University, Malaysia. He has worked for and with a number of institutions, including the University of Malaya (Malaysia), the International Atomic Energy Agency (Austria), American International University-Bangladesh, and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (Korea). Recognized for his research excellence, Prof. Mayeen has been elected as an expatriate fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in 2023. He has been serving as a Senate member of Sunway University since 2018. He has published more than 670 research papers (WoS/Scopus-indexed) with a total citation of > 15596. Professor Mayeen is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Radiation Physics and Chemistry (Elsevier), Handling Editor of Physics Open (Elsevier), Editor of Scientific Reports (Springer Nature), and guest editor of several journals published by MDPI and Frontiers. Professor Mayeen produced more than 14 PhDs, and also served as one of the Chief Scientific Investigators for a CRP on theranostic radionuclide production assigned by the IAEA. His contributions to the scientific community have been recognized and acknowledged for instance by Elsevier as one of its most valuable reviewers for the years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021. He is the recipient of the most prestigious awards, ‘Excellence in Research-2024’ by Sunway University and ‘Excellence in Research-2022 (Commendation)’ by Sunway University, Malaysia. Prof. Mayeen is also listed as one of the top 2% highly cited researchers by Elsevier-Stanford University for the years 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 consecutively.
