Overview

The idea behind this book was to bridge a gap between the traditional business intelligence approach and data science. The traditional BI has an advantage in simplicity but lacks the exploratory power of data science. And that is exactly what this book tries to fix by bringing data science tools into a BI daily routine. Surely, it's not necessary to be a hard-core data scientist these days to be able to employ some of their tools. Just search the Internet, grab a piece of code and we are done! But are we? Isn't it always good to know how that piece works, what lies beneath it, to have some degree of confidence in the results? The author hopes this book can help in that regard. It explores some techniques in a depth that is enough to get a good understanding of them. It also demonstrates an application of the techniques to some common retail problems.
