OverviewIn order to progress onto any surgical speciality training in the UK surgical trainees must pass the MRCS examination. The exam is split into four parts, two written papers, a clinical examination and a viva voce examination. The viva is a particularly difficult element of the exam since candidates are tested across a broad range of topics in surgery, pathology, critical care and basic science. It is difficult too because candidates are unsure what to expect, or how to prepare for such an exam. This title offers a guide to sitting and passing the viva voce element. Each subject area offers 20-30 questions, which follow a conversational pattern where new questions follow logically from previous answers - in other words exactly as you would expect in the exam itself. Written by recently qualified surgeons who are now actively involved in the teaching and support of new trainees, this book aims to give the candidate the closest thing to being a fly on the wall in a viva voce examination.
