OverviewThis monograph offers an insight into the system of quantitative expressions in contemporary Slovak. Its interpretative framework is based on the theory of the linguistic worldview and linguistic naturalness, the idea of markedness and the principle of normativity. The monograph is topically divided into four chapters. In the first and second chapters, it focuses on compound formations, part-of-speech paradigms, the use of specific word-formation processes and patterns and the morphological paradigms of full-meaning words. It also presents the individual types of oppositional homomorphism in the category of number in nouns, adjectives and verbs. In the next chapter, the authors present the functional aspects of grammatical number in nouns and the specifics of use of verbal number and verbal person. The last chapter focuses on text difficulty. It discusses the linguistic and pragmatic parameters of text and presents an overview of the multidimensional nature of text comprehension. The monograph is intended for linguists who seek to extend their knowledge about the morphology and general functioning of one of the ""minority languages"".
