OverviewImproving patients' quality of life has come to be regarded as a central aim of mental health care, more important than conventional goals, such as reduction of psychopathology and prevention of rehospitalization. However, this text argues that the concept of quality of life remains unclear. That concept is examined in the first chapter, then later sections deal with issues of assessment and evaluation. The final chapters consider the relationship between quality of life and antipsychotic medication - and the implications for future research strategies.
