OverviewAmidst an ongoing series of mysterious earthquakes wreaking havoc on the Tokyo megalopolis, a female detective and a man who has somehow misplaced his identity, must team up to defeat an apocalyptic cult bent on chaos and mass destruction. Detective Suzie Suzuki is brilliant, talented, highly resourceful - some would go so far as to claim magical - with a reputation of being willing to do whatever it takes to solve a case. She's just been transferred to Tokyo, looking forward to her next seemingly impossible challenge. Her new boss, Superintendent Kumagai, doesn't disappoint, assigning her the task of discovering the source of the large quantities of methamphetamine currently flooding Tokyo. Oh, and if she has the time, perhaps she could also look into the recent spate of disappearing young women from across the city. It doesn't take Suzie long to realize that the two problems are connected, both pointing to a single source, a fanatical, quasi-religious organization known simply as Mu. All she's lacking is a way in, something or someone to connect the crucial dots. She finds it in a man who has recently awakened from a month-long coma, after a serious head injury, whose name may or may not be Murakami. Quake-land: a post-postmodern, erotically charged concoction of crime, mystery, offbeat humor and seismic strangeness in the land of the rising sun.
