Overview

This book contains the proceedings of the CRIS2004 conference, the 7th in a series of international conferences on Current Research Information Systems. The important issues of CRISs in their specific social context do remain. The scientist, while still under increasing pressure to provide answers to problems of the society is asked to do so in a global scientific environment with a high demand for transparency and fast response to challenges and changing conditions. The public at large, private business and government do increasingly depend on adequate, accurate, well-structured and easily accessible information and data. Between these demands and the practical realisation stands a plethora of social and technological issues. The need for structured and quality data is reflected upon in the context of CRISs as a basis for data analysis, bibliometrics, scientometrics. The contributions do reflect clearly the convergence that can be observed between several related sectors.
