What would you do if you heard a gunshot come from inside the house you've just arrived at? If you're Cait O'Hara, you draw your service weapon and charge inside. That early-spring morning had started off cool and clear. Cait was performing the boring part of her job as investigator for the San Serra District Attorney's office-serving a subpoena to the City Treasurer/Finance Manager for financial irregularities. As she arrives at his house- BANG! But that's not all that happens that morning. A neighbor in an upscale neighborhood spies two men stuffing a body into a car trunk at the empty house next door. And two of San Serra's finest law enforcement officers engage in the world's slowest car chase... that suddenly turns deadly. Cait has her hands full, especially when Detective Jake Sager is assigned to both cases along with her. She can barely stand him, and yet, at the end of the last case they worked together, she kissed him. So there's that. And Cameron Winters, the assistant DA she'd been dating, but suddenly broke up with in her last adventure, would like to take her to dinner to apologize. So there's that. Cait is the kind of detective who likes to-who must-focus 100% on her cases. It's the way she's wired. And being a woman in a vocation consisting of mostly men... Well, she prefers not to show weakness. Not to them. Not to herself. Two cases. Two men. Cait has her work cut out for her to keep her focus. Especially when both cases take a horrifying turn, one from which Cait might not make it out alive.
