Sometimes destiny has another plan-including upending your world. Esmeralda ""Esmie"" Morales always follows the rules, especially those established by her strict Mamá. Asthe top student at Brookshire State University with several corporations vying to hire her for an internship straight out of University, Esmie has her path laid out for her. Then, Andloor Capitol deems her favorite band Maldado illegal to listen to and bans practicing one's culture altogether. When Esmie hears Maldado will be playing at a prohibited club, she rebels for the first time, not only against her Mamá and Papi, but also against Andloor Capitol itself. What could go wrong? Apparently, everything. When the concert is broken up by police, Esmie pricks herself with purple glass, an illicitly engineered drug, and the next morning, her once normal life takes a dark and twisted turn. Scared and infected, Esmie searches for a cure with the help of her brother and a handsome stranger. Her life on the line, she begins to develop strange powers, putting her not only on the police's radar, but also Genetronetics'. The shadowy corporation's involvement forces Esmie to face the reality that life in Andloor isn't what she thought it was. But could purple glass and her newfound powers be the solution? Esmie is torn between being the change or staying silent, and as Andloor Capitol and Genetronetics close in on her, she must choose between being quietly complicit, or risk everything and everyone she loves to embark on a new destiny and discover her own path.
