Overview

This book seems to be alone in providing a good link between supply chain and purchasing strategy, in this respect it is the best I have seen. Nigel Wild, Programme Director, MA e-Logistics and Supply Chain Management, School of Business, University of Greenwich. Lysons and Farrington is a fundamental purchasing knowledge resource. The publication of this seventh edition marks its 24th year and it can fairly claim to be the most comprehensive textbook on purchasing and supply chain management currently available. Clearly written and covering a wide range of information, models and definitions, this book is an ideal overall resource for any course in Purchasing or Supply Chain Management. The contents clearly cover the syllabus of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply at both the Foundation and Professional stages and the text will provide a quick source of reference for practitioners on many aspects of purchasing and supply. This new edition has been fully revised and chapters on storage, transport and human resources have been replaced by new chapters on supplier relationships, product innovation and supplier involvement.; This new edition contains: an emphasis on purchasing strategy; the inclusion of public sector purchasing; coverage of topics like E-procurement, RFID, value management and fraud; and new teaching resources include an Instructor's Manual, additional case studies and comprehensive PowerPoint slides. The book contains a comprehensive bibliography, index and glossary as well as case studies and discussion questions in every chapter and sample past examination questions from CIPS. The authors provide a nicely integrated approach to purchasing and supply chain management, drawing on the many disciplines that contribute to a full knowledge of purchasing strategy, practice and techniques. Translated into Chinese, Russian and Polish, this book provides a truly international and invaluable guide for students of purchasing and supply chain management and practitioners alike. Dr Kenneth Lysons is a graduate of three universities and also possesses a number of diplomas and professional qualifications.; After 10 years of practical purchasing experience and various senior education appointments and examinerships, he recently retired as a consultant specialising in the fields of purchasing and human relations management. Dr Brian Farrington is an independent consultant and consults both internationally and to HM Government. He also teaches the Civil Service Staff College Certificate of Competence in Purchasing and Supply. Purchasing and Supply Chain Management is published in association with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), which is the central reference point for the purchasing and supply profession.
