OverviewCatheter ablation of pulmonary veins guided by circumferential mapping of pulmonary vein signals is a complex procedure with a potentially steep learning curve. A good working understanding of pulmonary vein electrograms is an important step in reducing this learning curve and helps the operator to undertake PV ablation procedures in an efficient and timely manner. During the past few years, the ablation approach to atrial fibrillation has changed quite dramatically from linear ablation first in the right and then in the left atrium to focal ablation within pulmonary veins, and finally to the current strategy of systematic pulmonary vein disconnection as the first step of atrial fibrillation ablation. This book is intended to assist students of electrophysiology and those electrophysiologists commencing pulmonary vein ablation to gain a better understanding of pulmonary vein electrograms using a simple question and answer, case-oriented approach. The electrograms have been carefully chosen by Drs Scavee, Weerasooriya and Macle to demonstrate and reinforce important points.
