Reviews

In this book, Jan Kuniholm has pulled together material on a single topic of interest to Roberto Assagioli, MD: that of the most intimate of relationships-between a man and a woman. Much of this material has been translated from the Italian, and made available to the English-speaking world for the first time. Kuniholm has drawn from a variety of sources including Assagioli's published and unpublished essays and hand-written notes; transcripts of his lectures and talks; diagrams and photos. What an impressive accomplishment this is! The author has created a composite essay that brings to life Assagioli's thinking, and the reader is encouraged to view this as the work of a man who combined in himself the sensibility of both a poet and a scientist as he shared his insights into the nature of healthy human lives and relationships. I think it is outstanding. -Douglas Russell, retired trainer, therapist and writer; Founder and Editor of Psychosynthesis Digest Jan Kuniholm has done a great job of synthesizing Roberto Assagioli's insights into The Psychosynthesis of the Couple, offering a wealth of new ideas when it comes to the inner life of the couple. This book offers so many wise perspectives on the process of harmonization between two different bio-psycho-spiritual energies and one understands why the committed relationship of a couple has so much personal and spiritual development to offer. Very often we need someone dear to our hearts to motivate us to sacrifice our most stubborn and selfish attitudes for the sake of the other and this book surely provides all the incentives to commit us wholeheartedly to our love relationships, not just for the pleasure of love, but essentially as a service to the world. -Kenneth Sorensen, Psychosynthesis Teacher, Trainer and author of The Soul of Psychosynthesis and other books

Author Information

Roberto Assagioli, MD (1888/1974) was born in Venice and lived his entire life in Italy. He was a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, teacher, lecturer and writer, among other things. He was among the fist Italians to study Freudian psychoanalysis, and along with C.G. Jung he was among the first to leave the psychoanalytic movement to develop his own framework for psychological and spiritual work. His psychosynthesis, an original synthetic framework for understanding and fostering human understanding, healing, and development, was first presented in 1928 and is now used worldwide in coaching, education, medicine, psychotherapy, organizational development and other fields of endeavor by thousands of people who have taken the training in this framework and used the methods of psychosynthesis. Assagioli founded the Institute of Psychosynthesis in Florence, Italy, and inspired the founding of Sundial House Meditation Centre in the UK, Meditation Mount in Ojai CA in the USA, and The School for Esoteric Studies in the USA. He was an associate of Alice Bailey and produced much material under the auspices of The Arcane School. He was the author of numerous paper, articles, pamphlets, and books Piero Ferrucci is an Italian philosopher, teacher, psychotherapist and writer who was a direct student of Roberto Assagioli. He is the author of numerous books and articles. He lives in Italy. Jan Kuniholm is an American philosopher, writer and editor. He served the Association for the Advancement of Psychosynthesis in numerous capacities, including Co-chair, from 2004-2018; and was founder and original editor of the online journal Psychosynthesis Quarterly. He has written several papers and articles, and through his imprint Cheshire Cat Books has published books related to psychosynthesis. For some years he has worked with others to bring more of Roberto Assagioli's Italian writings to an English-speaking audience.
