Michael J. Asken, PhD - Dr. Michael Asken holds a BA degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from the Johns Hopkins University. he completed his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology with a minor in Medical Psychology at West Virginia University and served his internship at the East Orange (New Jersey) Veterans' Administration Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Division of Health Psychology of the American Psychological Assocaition. Mike earned credentials as a Fellow and Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists and Diplomate of the American Board of Disability Analysts. Mike was co-chair for the US Olympic Committee's 1987 National Conference on Sport Psychology. He has been an invited reviewer for the journal The Sport Psychologist. He has published articles on sport psychology in The International Journal of Sport Psychology, Family Medicine, Sports 'n Spokes, The Sport sychologist, and the Physician and Sports Medicine. He is the author of Dying to Win: Preventing Drug Abuse in Sport and is co-author of Sport Psychology: The Psychological Health of the Athlete. He taught sport psychology at Lebanon Valley College, where he was given the Nevelyn Knisley Award for inspired teaching. Mike has worked with athletes on psychological performance enhancement at the youth, high school, collegiate and professional levels. He was the team sport psychologist for the Harrisburg Heat professional indoor soccer team and the Hershey Wildcats professional outdoor soccer team. He has also worked with physically disabled athletes and Special Olympics. He has provided training in sport psychology to various high schools, youth sports organizations and athletic training groups. In his current position, Mike has provided training in psychological performance skills and mental toughness to groups such as the FBI, Pennsylvania State Police, National Tactical Officers' Association, NYPD, the U.S. Army War College and US Navy Seals. Breton M. Asken - Breton has played competitive soccer since the age of five. He was also the place kicker for his high school football team during his senior year. He is currently a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Exercise and Sport Science and in (Neuro) Psychology. He is pursuing his certification as an athletic trainer, and has worked with high school athletes and the UNC Football and Track teams. He has been significantly involved with the sports concussion program at UNC.
