OverviewProtection of personal data is one of the most important aspects of IT law. It includes basic issues within both public and private law. A satisfactory legal regulation is essential for the further development of the information society. This book reviews the basic features of data protection law and considers the fundamental concept of informational privacy. The different issues are discussed on the basis of the international literature and the international legal instruments with directive 95/46 EC as the primary source. The discussion takes its starting point in Danish law as an example of national regulation and is then expanded taking an international perspective. The eight chapters cover: the individual and privacy; principles and rights; the legal environment; IT privacy; selected topics (public and private sector); transborder data flow; the surveilled society; the future of data protection.
