Project Management as Warfare

Overview

As a project manager with over 20 years of experience, Gregory has deep expertise in project management. As a military officer studying the art of war, he noticed some significant parallels with the art of good project management. As a PMP and a PgMP with an MS IT (Project Management), and while pursuing a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, he realized that the lessons learned from studying the art of war filled a significant gap in the practice of managing projects. This book is not a dry rendering of the technical aspects of project management in other terms, but rather a completely new look at the aspect of project management that is often forgotten in texts and seminars: managing people to be sure the right things are done at the right time in the right way to ensure project success.

Author Information

Gregory entered the USAF with a (double-major) BS in Physics and Math, and earned 4 Air Force Commendation Medals in 7 years of service conducting test projects for the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center. After leaving the Air Force and doing the same work as a civilian for the Air Force and the Navy, he moved to Texas and got his MS IT from Capella University. During this time, he became increasingly convinced that the most important aspect of successful project management was also the most overlooked: people. He completed the coursework for a PhD in I/O Psychology, and in 2011 is working on his dissertation on organizational cultural response to technological innovation.
