Overview

The Jeca Tatu Project assessed the nutritional, dental and parasitological conditions of the local population in the Planalto neighbourhood in the city of Porto Velho, Rondônia. Parasitological tests carried out on more than 70 individuals detected protozoa and intestinal helminths. The nutritional assessment indicated a low weight-for-age index, with the biggest problem detected in the area of nutrition being malnutrition. In the dental area, there was a high rate of children with caries and a high number of tooth loss. The work is important because it focuses on prevention and guidance for residents.
