Cellvibrio Japonicus est une bactérie cellulolytique puissante, qui dispose d'un système cellulolytique complet utilisé pour hydrolyser la cellulose en glucose, un sucre monosaccharide clé, après quoi Saccharomyces cerevisiae (producteur d'éthanol) peut utiliser ce sucre pour produire de l'éthanol comme produit final.
