"""For anyone lost within the range and depth of Buddhist writings, Gibbon's Probing the Sutras is a wonderful place to turn."" --Steve Hagen, author of Buddhism Plain and Simple ""Probing the Sutras is a valuable addition to the library of any serious student of Zen or any other form of Buddhism. It identifies, introduces, and discusses a short list of essential source texts, and provides valuable bibliographies for each. A professional scholar and a sincere Zen priest, Guy writes with straight-to-the-point concision and deep respect for the teachings. I am glad we now have his book, the fruit of many years' loving labor."" --Norman Fischer, author of On a Train at Night ""Deeply researched, engagingly written, and thought-provoking, Probing the Sutras is a fine addition to the surprisingly small shelf of books that both summarize and bring alive key Buddhist scriptures. It will be of value both to beginners . . . and to experienced students, especially in the West, who seek to understand the Asian sources of their ideas and practices."" --Roger R. Jackson, author of Mind Seeing Mind ""This wonderful distillation of themes from eleven core Buddhist scriptures may be the first of its kind. . . . This book will be an aid to meditators, those learning to be Buddhist teachers, and others who wish to explore the Buddhist intellectual tradition."" --Tim Burkett, author of Zen in the Age of Anxiety ""An excellent read to expand the breadth of understanding of Buddhist thought. This book provides entry into a kaleidoscopically diverse array of influential teachings, for which a guide is indispensable."" --Ben Connelly, author of Inside the Grass Hut"
