OverviewThe present work analyzes the right to communication of prisoners in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a particular focus on Bukavu Central Prison. The study examines the international and national legal framework for the protection of the right to communication of persons deprived of their liberty, through international human rights instruments, the Congolese Constitution and current penitentiary legislation.Secondly, it analyzes the content, scope and modalities for exercising this right in the prison environment, in particular the right of visit, the right to correspondence and the right to communicate with a lawyer. Finally, the work highlights the practical difficulties linked to the effective exercise of this right at Bukavu Central Prison, while underlining the issues linked to respect for human dignity, the protection of fundamental rights and their social reintegration.
