Overview

Princples of Qur'an Commentary is a work of great importance in the field of Qur'anic exegetical theory as it sets out Ibn Taymiyyah's approach to tafsir, interpretation of the Qur'an, listing the following principles: Qur'anic parallels, the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, the sayings of the companions of the Prophet (Sahaba) and the sayings of the successors of the companions (Tabi'un). This is an influential work that has not only influenced medieval Muslim theologians, who prepared commentaries on the Qur'an, but extends to modern thinkers today.
