Miceli completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at York University. She began her career as a biological scientist, and conducted physiological studies of inflammation-induced neural changes in the gastrointestinal tract. Her interests in clinical research led to a position with a pharmaceutical company, where she led industry-sponsored drug efficacy studies in post-surgical pain and urgency incontinence in Canada. While conducting her doctoral studies, Ms. Miceli has supervised undergraduate student health psychology research projects, and instructed health psychology courses.
