OverviewWhen I begin to teach handwriting, I typically begin teaching upper case letters first. The strokes all begin at the top, the letters are bigger, and all of the letters stay within the writing lines. I insist that my student sit up straight in his/her chair with feet flat on the floor. At times this may require that you raise or lower the desk or chair or provide a raised footrest. I also instruct the student on the proper way to hold a pencil. When students are presented with a handwriting lesson, we review the stroke sequence and I watch closely to be certain they adhere to the correct stroke sequence when practicing.Every teaching environment is unique. You know your students' strengths and weaknesses, so you may choose to teach the letters in any order you like and can even teach upper case and lower case letters at the same time.As a general rule, I keep the lessons short, usually between 5 and 10 minutes, and prefer to present the letters in the order outlined below.
