OverviewBamboo comprises more than 1200 species of usually woody, perennial plants in the true grass family Poaceae, occurring primarily in tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions in Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Bamboos are distributed among more than 90 genera in the subfamily Bambusoideae and the tribe Bambuseae.
