OverviewAll South Africans are free under the new political dispensation. But there is one enormous problem which makes it impossible for most people in this country to achieve and enjoy a good life. This obstacle is the problem of poverty. This title gives an empirical and theological report on the situation with the aim to develop a homiletical theory of praxis which will help preachers to proclaim to gospel message meaningfully in a context of poverty. Meaningfully implies that preaching must give Christians hope and inspiration for a vision of liberation from poverty. The reader is taken on a journey of the author's methodological approach to theology, practical theology and preaching (Chapter 1); of understanding the poverty situation by means of an in-depth empirical analysis of the situation (Chapter 2); of discovering the interpretation of the Biblical message for our context (Chapter 3); and of engaging in the development of a diaconal church and the concrete praxis of preaching combined with development projects by the poor(Chapter 4).
