Table of ContentsReviewsDon Gordon addresses prayers to God, but those prayers are offfered for, with, among and in response to the joys and hurts, victories and struggles of a gathered community of faith. These prayers draw us all closer to grace, in specific moments, and in the give and take of daily life. We can pray them with him now, and they are good news. -Bill J. Leonard School of Divinity Wake Forest University All too often, busy pastors pray perfuctory prayers that float across the congregation without touching a soul. Other pastors consider the pastoral prayer to be as central as the sermon, and they pour such thought, creativity, and preparation into the prayer that it grabs worshipers by the heart and leaves them convicted, comforted, and possibly even converted. Don Gordon's Prayers of a Pastor reflects precisely that sort of insightful approach, one that can make the pastoral prayer the most memorable and meaningful aspect of worship. -Tony W. Cartledge Professor of Old Testament Campbell University Divinity School Holy scripture instructs us in James 4:8: 'Come near to God and he will come near to you.' The inspired prayers in 'Prayers of a Pastor' will certainly bring the reader nearer to our Lord. I am confident that pastors and laity alike will turn to them time and time again for encouragement. Thank you, Pastor Don. -Linda Mercer The prayers in this volume encouraged, inspired, and instructed me. They are profound and eloquent. I found myself inwardly agreeing with an 'amen' and making them my own. 'Prayers of a Pastor' will help anyone who reads them thoughtfully in their own experience of prayer. They reflect the effective ministy of a pastor who is commited to the life and practice of prayer. Thanks be to God. -Daniel Vestal Distinguished Professor of Baptist Leadership Director, Eula Mae and John Baugh Center of Baptist Leadership Mercer University Author InformationDon Gordon has served as the pastor of Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina since 2013.
